French sorrel
Elongated leaves with a tangy, lemony taste.
Ideal in sauces, soups or salads.
Our favorite way to make it is to blend it with water and sugar and turn it into a lovely green lemonade for hot summer days. It's a real treat that has surprised more than one person!
A very hardy perennial, it will return to the garden year after year and grow larger!
It reaches 30 cm in height and 20 cm in width.
Harvesting: Harvest young for a more tender taste (when the leaves are 15 cm long)
Outdoor or indoor sowing: Start indoors 5 weeks before transplanting outdoors. OR. Sow directly in the ground early in the season, as soon as the risk of frost has passed. Sow 5mm deep. It is quite cold-hardy and even appreciates milder temperatures, which delay bolting.
Germination: 7 to 14 days. Temperature above 15 ° C.
Specifications: Sorrel contains oxalic acid, so it is advisable not to consume it in very large quantities.
Exposure: Full sun or partial shade.
Maturity: 70 days.
Origin of the seed: We obtained the first seeds High Mowing sells this sorrel. The seeds sold are the first generation grown on the farm.
