Tongue of Fire Beans
A pretty, tender green bean covered with a bright pink flame pattern. The beans are eaten like green beans when young or used as dried beans when mature.
To harvest dried beans, wait until the pods are dry and brittle. If the season is too short or the autumn is wet, it is possible to harvest the entire plants and dry them in a warm, well-ventilated place. Once the pods are completely dry, tread them down and then use a fan to separate the beans.
Dwarf size. Approximately 50 cm tall.
Outdoor sowing: Sow directly in the ground in spring. 1 cm deep. 5 cm between seeds. Beans can be sown early in the season, as soon as the risk of frost has passed.
Germination: 7 days. Temperature above 10 ° C.
Specifications: Does not require a trellis.
Exposure: Full sun.
Maturity: 90 days (dry beans).
Origin of the seed: We obtained the first seeds I bought these beans from a friend in Témiscouata who has been growing them for years. The seeds sold are the first generation grown on the farm.
