Red poppy
A flower with delicate, vibrant red petals and a black center. The leaves are equally ornamental, deeply lobed and a lovely pale green. Poppies are always a delightful addition to gardens. The seeds are used to flavor bagels, cookies, and cakes.
An annual that self-seeds. Reaches 1 m in height.
Indoor sowing: Start sowing 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost for earlier flowering. Do not cover the seeds with soil.
Outdoor sowing: Scatter the seeds directly onto the ground in April or May, or even the previous autumn. Do not cover the seeds; they prefer to germinate in the sun.
Germination: 10-21 days. Temperature above 20 ° C.
Outdoor transplant: When the soil has warmed up and the risk of frost has passed.
Exposure: Full sun or partial shade.
Maturity: 70 days.
Origin of the seed: These flowers were growing at CESA in St-Louis in Gaspésie in 2015 and the seeds have been harvested and reproduced several times in our different gardens since.
