Petrowski Turnip
Certified organic by Québec Vrai.
An heirloom variety originating from Berlin, this beautiful early turnip has a delicate and delicious flesh. It grows quickly and is very hardy. These turnips remain tender even when they become large (and they can get enormous!). Delicious mashed, roasted, or in soups, which bring out their sweet aromas.
Sow throughout the season.
Harvest when the roots are between 7 and 15 cm in diameter. The plants reach 40 cm in height.
Outdoor sowing: Sow directly in the ground. 5 mm deep. 5 to 10 cm between seeds. Rows spaced 30 cm apart. Turnips can be sown early in the season, as soon as the risk of frost has passed, or later in July or August to overwinter. They are quite cold-hardy and even tolerate milder temperatures. Once established, turnips can withstand light frosts (0 ° C).
Germination: 7-10 days. Temperature above 5 ° C.
Specifications: You may need to grow turnips under netting if flea beetles are very prevalent in your area.
Exposure: Full sun.
Maturity: 50 days.
Origin of the seed: We obtained the first turnips from the Beaux-Lieux Gardens, which had obtained the seeds from La Société des Plantes.
Open-pollinated seeds grown locally and naturally.
